We catch up with Onna and Jordan from Hiro + Wolf stockist, Doggy Day Care Cornwall, to find out the inspiration behind their pup-ular pet business on the scenic south-west coast of England.

1. When did you start your business and what inspired you to open your
shop?
As a team, we are passionate about our dogs, which lead us in 2014 to
opening the doors to Doggy Day Care Cornwall, which swiftly became the
South West’s most popular dog care solution. Our ethos is based on creating
a home from home environment for man’s best friend, and to step away from
the concept of a traditional kennels into one that harnesses a positive, free
roam environment. Allowing dogs to relax, play, socialise and, most
importantly, stay active during working hours of owners or time spent on
holiday.
Our community of dog lovers, four-legged friends and customers has opened
our eyes to the realities faced by pet owners by what is offered for dogs in
most major supermarkets. We strongly understand the need for products that
offer exceptional value in terms of price, quality and variety with a natural
twist.
We’ve recently launched our expansion into the footprint of a former golf
course, equipped with secure private-hire dog park and Natural Cornish Pet
shop, housing a curated selection of only the best products available.

2. Where are you favourite dog friendly places to visit in Cornwall?
Cornwall is a wonderfully dog friendly place to live and visit, and there are so
many places to choose from but some of our favourites include;
Cardinham and Tehidy Woods for walks, with a great variety of footpaths suitable for all abilities and ages.
For food we cannot get enough of The Gurnard’s Head and Birdies Bistro, and Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens for a day out.

3. Why did you choose Hiro + Wolf for your store?
One of the first things that stood out to us about Hiro + Wolf was the beautiful,
innovative array of colours and patterns. We were also happy to discover that
Hiro + Wolf products are all made by hand in the U.K using ethically sourced
materials. We’re always trying to support British brands, and many of the
products in the Natural Cornish Pet shop are made in the U.K. so it was a
perfect fit!

4. What do you enjoy most about running a pet store?
Our favourite thing about running a pet shop is the people and dogs we get to
meet on a daily basis. Many of our customers are regulars who have
supported us from the very beginning, so there’s a real community spirit
around the brand. Being able to help dog owners bring up healthy, happy and
socialised doggies is also very rewarding.
-
5. What are your plans for the future?
That’s a good question! This year we have launched our new secure dog-
park, expanded our dog day care facility and opened our first pet shop in St
Erth, Cornwall as well as launching our e-commerce site; Natural Cornish Pet,
so as you can image we’ve been very busy! After a well-deserved rest we are
planning to launch training and grooming services in our St Erth facility, so we
can truly call ourselves a one-stop-shop for pet owners in Cornwall.
